On Saturday 07 September 2019, HE Mrs. Safiatou NDIAYE, Ambassador of Senegal in South Africa, and her team met with the Senegalese community based in Pretoria, at the local Dahira Mourides and Tidianes headquarters. The meeting’s discussions, which are part of the Ambassador’s proximity visits, revolved around the unfortunate events recently noted in South Africa.

During his speech, the Ambassador reminded the audience of the noble missions assigned to the Embassy, ​​including diplomatically, politically, economically but also culturally. She then informed about the different daily activities undertaken by the Representation, ranging from high-level meetings with the country’s Authorities to the assistance of compatriots in difficulty, through participation in conferences, forums and other major events aimed at strengthening the cooperation links between Senegal and the countries of the jurisdiction.

On the situation prevailing in South Africa, HE Mrs. Safiatou Ndiaye said that the Head of State is monitoring the situation very closely and that he has given instructions so that the lives and interests of compatriots are better safeguarded. . She also recalled that she is in constant contact with the Presidents of Senegalese associations and Dahiras for real-time monitoring of events in each province.

For their part, the compatriots have, in turn, magnified the steps taken so far by the Ambassador and have welcomed the quality of the reception that is reserved for them at the Embassy, ​​on a daily basis. They also pointed to some concerns, such as the disadvantageous border controls at the airport and the roadside checks where they are sometimes dispossessed of their property.

On all these points, the Ambassador first invited the community to communicate more with the embassy so that it can intervene properly with the South African authorities. She went on to say that her staff have taken good note of the various interventions and that a follow-up of the cases mentioned will be ensured.

Finally, Madam Ambassador thanked the community for the warm welcome, not without calling for vigilance and compliance with the laws and regulations of South Africa with which Senegal has excellent relations.
