DIAMNIADIO, THE MILLENIUM PLATFORM PROJECT

The project «Diamniadio» aims to unclog Dakar, to provide Senegal with an eco-city that will be durable, intelligent, connected, displaying an urban mix that combines institutions, ministries, digital park, university housing, all in 2500 ha. The new urban project is located thirty kilometers southwest of Dakar and fifteen minutes from the Blaise Diagne International Airport. ln a short term, 300,000 people will settle down in this new city, but ultimately it is nearly one million inhabitants who will share its many green spaces and infrastructure.

For several years, the capital of Senegal, Dakar, had become a nightmare for motorists. Diamniadio is a first step to streamline the territory of Senegal and to implement the project called «Plan Senegal Emergence (PSE)».

Urban Pole Diamniadio” brings new life to Dakar by reducing the many pressures on the city. ln other words, Diamniadio will help Dakar to get a better life”, said His Excellency,President Macky SALL.

The proposed urban project will make Diamniadio a modern city focused on the future which will combine green  areas, university of  the  future,  training centers, administrative center and digital technology park. An urban mix, key to the success of the project.

Government departments will also have their place in the new city, making de facto Diamniadio an administrative city. As well as a Digital Technology Park. The French company Atos, which has just opened its regional center of digital services for West Africain Dakar, has already positioned for installation in Diamniadio. The company is going to build a digital platform that is expected to generate 1,000 jobs by to three years.

Everything has been designed to make their live easier. Data centers, “cloud” server, training and  software development centers, e-commerce, business incubators, audio-visual and multimedia production units  will settle down  in the city and should generate 35,000 direct jobs as well as 105,000  indirect jobs by 2025. The  project is  funded by the African Development Bank with 70.6 million euros.

Renewable  energy  is already used in the city center. A potential business target for Belgian and Luxembourg companies specialized in renewable energies.

ln order to anticipate any problem of mobility, the IT city  will manage the automation of the city: traffic, energy efficiency and security. A solar  power plant, with a capacity of 15 megawatts, will ensure the supply of clean electricity, while most buildings are designed to maximize the natural warmth and efficiency of ventilation flow in buildings.

Building materials needs are provided by a factory that is located in an industrial park in the city. lt  will also respond to the needs of other  urban  centers projects such as the Lac Rose and the towns of Thies and Mbour.

SENEGAL COMPLETES THE LARGEST WIND FARM IN WEST AFRICA

Posted by Matteo Maillard on, 08/01/2020 newspaper Le Monde

At the end of the road, huge white masts. This is Taïba Ndiaye, the largest wind farm in West Africa. Soon, its 46 wind turbines will be complete, ready to inject 15% additional energy into the Senegalese electricity grid. And, as of June 2020, this flagship project of 200 billion CFA francs (342 million euros) will provide 158 megawatts.

The country’s first industrial scale wind project, Taïba Ndiaye confirms Senegal’s ambition to position itself as a regional green energy platform. Since his election in 2012, President Macky Sall has already inaugurated four solar power plants, including the largest in the sub-region. Ultimately, renewable energies should make up 30% of the country’s energy mix, and Taïba Ndiaye will supply half of it.

« It changed our lives »

But “it took ten years to convince,” recalls Yassine Majdallah, director of the Taïba Ndiaye power plant. In 2007, a small team of Franco-Senegalese promoters discovered the potential of the coastal region of Thiès (86 km north of Dakar), swept by the harmattan and the Atlantic winds. Their speed, between 8 and 20 meters per second (m / s), is ideal for energy production. So, quickly, seven hectares of cassava, corn and peanut fields were negotiated with the populations in order to install the turbines. In 2016, Lekela, a company specializing in wind energy, which has already built similar parks in South Africa, Egypt and Ghana, signs a power purchase contract with the National Electricity Company of Senegal ( Senelec).

GOLDEN BALL 2019

The Embassy of the Republic of Senegal in Pretoria warmly congratulates the compatriot Sadio MANE who has just won the prestigious Golden Ball 2019.

This coronation, beyond an individual exploit, is the consequence of a good sports policy led by the Government of Senegal. It honors all the Senegalese people but also the world of African football.

Congratulations!!!
